Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Sanctuary private?

Yes, Hauora Sanctuary is a private space, available by appointment only. Each booking is for one client or group at a time, with intervals in between to ensure thorough cleaning and a private arrival and departure experience.

What do we wear in the sauna/ice bath?

It really comes down to personal preference. As long as you're on a towel, you can wear your underwear, activewear, or swimwear. If you feel most comfortable in activewear, I’d recommend opting for shorts instead of leggings. Jewellery should be off as this can get very hot - small earrings and nose rings are normally okay.

What are your opening hours?

Hauora Sanctuary provides an 'unwind in nature' experience, featuring only natural light from Mother Nature. We’re open Monday to Friday from 8 AM until sundown (dark at 7.45/8pm), and for half days on Saturdays.

How many people can your space hold?

The sauna comfortably accommodates up to 6 people at a time. For yoga sessions, it can hold 10, ensuring there's enough space between the mats. For small events or day retreats, I recommend a maximum of 12-14 attendees to keep parking manageable.

What is your policy with wet weather being outdoors?

Hauora Sanctuary is an outdoor contrast therapy space. The sauna/contrast therapy appointment will proceed as scheduled, regardless of the weather outside (unless dangerous weather/ weather warnings or there is a storm).

I love to provide outdoor massages in nature; however, if the weather is rainy, too cold or too windy, I’ll move the treatment indoors to my home treatment room.

Do you assist a contract therapy session?

Contrast therapy is designed as a self-guided experience, unless you would like me, Amy Watts, to be present to guide and support you. If you prefer my assistance, please indicate that when booking; otherwise, you’ll enjoy the experience in complete peace and solitude.

How much weight can the massage table hold?

250kgs.

What are the benefits of contrast therapy?

Contrast therapy, which typically involves alternating between hot and cold treatments, offers several benefits:

1. Improved Circulation: Alternating temperatures helps stimulate blood flow, which can enhance circulation and promote healing.

2. Reduced Muscle Soreness: It can alleviate post-exercise soreness and stiffness by improving recovery times.

3. Decreased Inflammation: Cold exposure can help reduce inflammation, while heat can promote relaxation and muscle tension relief.

4. Enhanced Flexibility: The combination of heat and cold can improve flexibility and range of motion in joints.

5. Pain Relief: It may provide relief from pain conditions.

6. Relaxation and Stress Relief: The heat can promote relaxation, while the cold can invigorate, creating a balance that helps reduce stress.

7. Boosted Immune Function: Some studies suggest that contrast therapy may stimulate the immune system and improve overall health.

8. Enhanced Recovery for Athletes: It’s commonly used by athletes to speed up recovery after intense workouts or competitions.

9. Mood Enhancement: The experience can release endorphins, leading to improved mood and mental well-being.

10. Skin Benefits: The alternation between hot and cold can promote healthier skin by improving circulation and reducing puffiness.

What are the benefits of sauna?

Using a traditional sauna offers a variety of benefits, including:

1. Relaxation and Stress Relief: The heat helps to relax muscles and promote a sense of well-being, reducing stress and anxiety.

2. Improved Circulation: The high temperatures increase heart rate and blood flow, which can enhance cardiovascular health.

3. Detoxification: Sweating helps eliminate toxins from the body, promoting overall health.

4. Muscle Recovery: The heat can soothe sore muscles and joints, aiding in recovery after exercise or injury.

5. Skin Health: Saunas can improve skin appearance by opening pores and promoting sweating, which may help clear impurities.

6. Pain Relief: The heat may alleviate discomfort from conditions like arthritis or muscle pain.

7. Enhanced Respiratory Function: The warm, humid air can help open airways and improve breathing, benefiting those with respiratory issues.

8. Improved Sleep: Regular sauna use may help improve sleep quality by promoting relaxation and reducing stress.

9. Boosted Immune System: The heat can stimulate the production of white blood cells, potentially enhancing immune function.
